CHAPTER ONE: The Lousy Day

1.1
Contrary to popular belief, stories don’t have beginnings, just starts. In fact, no matter where you start a story, it isn’t the beginning.
Starting a story is like drawing a line in the sand: no matter where you draw the line, there is still sand on both sides of it. Likewise, no matter where a story starts, there are always things that preceded it that are relevant to the story, if only for the influence those events have had on shaping the story’s characters.
But since a story has to start somewhere, here is where this story starts.
This is a story about a girl. This is a story about influences. And this is a story about beginnings, whatever they are.
